Fear of Computers

I've always been intimidated by computers and was always feeling like I needed to be a rocket scientist to truly understand how it works. And the thing is I've always loved design but was kinda put off with the whole technical aspect of it. Before I enrolled myself in art school years ago, I remembered a couple of my older friends who were already majoring in graphic design and how they were talking about Illustrator and Photoshop and me being so clueless about it. And so I decided to major in Painting instead. I mean, don't get me wrong, I LOVE painting. I love drawing. But I also love the stuff that was coming out from this whole digital world. So about 4-5 years ago, I got myself Photoshop 7 and started experimenting. It took me a while to figure it out. I mean, I still haven't figured it out, you know? But the whole experience wasn't as intense as I thought it would be. One of my first few illustration jobs was for this magazine and I used a mix of Photoshop and pencil to get it done. And to be honest, it didn't look any good. Well, it kinda look okay back then, but looking at it now...shit....it's pretty horrible. But the client liked it enough to include it in his magazine so go figure. Anyway, that made me go into it a bit more....and along with the help of my good buddy, the Black Emperor and YouTube, I got into using Illustrator. And I catch myself going back to these digital tools every now and then but I still have no idea what it can do or how it can help me with my illustrations. I know it can make a logo look really cool and I know how I can get rid of a pimple on face in a photograph, but I still don't really know what kind of features are available to me to help me take my stuff to the next level. So for the past four days, I sat down and started exploring both Illustrator and Photoshop and the works below is the result. That's pretty much it really. I'm sorry for this whole paragraph. I don't usually type this much stuff in a blog entry.
